Free Tax Information from TaxEasE uk

Self-Employed/Employed or Retired
If you are living, working and/or retired in the UK then you are subject to UK Income Tax and National Insurance Contributions Laws.

TaxEase uk can register you for both or, if you prefer, you can do this for yourself by contacting your local income tax office or the address below and providing your details, as required:
  • Inland Revenue,
  • National Insurance Contributions Office,
  • Longbenton,
  • Newcastle-Upon-Tyne,
  • NE98 1ZZ
All earnings and all income above your annual personal allowances are subject to income tax at the current rates.

Profits on self-employed earnings are also taxed above personal allowances in addition to income tax.

Inheritance Tax is levied on estates above the exemption level of £312,000.00 for 2008-2009 tax year.

All retirement earnings and income is subject to UK Tax above your personal allowances.

If you buy, sell or gift certain kinds of goods and investments, there could be Capital Gains Tax to pay over and above the Capital Gain Exemption. This is currently set at £9,600.00 for 2008-2009.

If you are a UK National, who is starting to work abroad, you will need to complete a P85 before you go. TaxEasE uk can do this for you. Being an expatriate can be complex when dealing with your tax affairs. TIP: Keep accurate records of the dates you arrive and leave the UK, for any later challenge by the Inland Revenue.

Income Tax offices often make mistakes in calculating any tax owed and should always be checked. TaxEasE uk can check your tax PAYE codings/returns for you for free if you are an existing client, or for a small fee if not.

Keep ALL your paperwork for both expenses and income e.g. receipts, statements, vouchers, invoices, top-up cards, bank statements, income statements etc.

REMEMBER that the authorities check on 500,000 tax payers each year for accuracy of returns. They do this to see if mistakes are made or to see if you are cheating! The penalties are severe.

There are two types of enquiries:
  • An 'Aspect' enquiry, which is the gentler type.
  • A 'Full' enquiry, which is a very thorough, more searching, more time consuming and expensive enquiry.
