How to get paid on your invoices

Your invoice can show your client up to three ways to pay: a card payment button, a payment link from your own app (PayPal, Revolut, Monzo) and your bank details. Pick one or more. Everything is set up once, in Settings → Profile, and then appears on every invoice.

Card payments with Stripe

Your client scans the QR code or taps Pay Now and pays by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. The money goes to your own Stripe account, and Stripe pays it into your bank.

  1. 1You need a free TaxEase UK account. In the Invoice Maker, sign in first.
  2. 2Open Settings → Profile and find the box Online card payments (Stripe). Press Connect Stripe.
  3. 3Stripe opens in a new tab. It asks you to confirm your identity, add the bank account for your payouts and set up two-step login. It takes about 10 minutes.
  4. 4Come back to the Invoice Maker tab. The box updates by itself and shows ✓ Stripe connected.
  5. 5From now on every unpaid invoice shows a card payment link and a QR code. You can switch it off for one invoice with Accept card payment on this invoice.

Refunds and payouts are managed in your Stripe dashboard. Fees are set out in section 22 of our Terms.

The invoice turns to Paid by itself when your client pays. Nothing else to do.

PayPal

With a PayPal.Me link your client opens the link, enters the amount and pays. Creating the link is free.

  1. 1Go to paypal.com/paypalme, log in and create your link. If you already have one, it is in your PayPal profile settings. It looks like paypal.me/yourname.
  2. 2In the Invoice Maker open Settings → Profile and paste it into Other payment link (PayPal, Revolut, Monzo…).
  3. 3Save. Your invoices now show Pay Now on screen, and a QR code and the link on the printed or PDF invoice.

Payments for goods and services can carry PayPal fees; check PayPal’s own fee page.

The invoice does not know when the money arrives. When you see the payment in your app, mark the invoice as paid (see “Track who has paid” below).

Revolut

A Revolut.me link lets people pay you without seeing your account details.

  1. 1In the Revolut app, create or copy your Revolut.me link (see Revolut’s help page).
  2. 2Paste it into Other payment link (PayPal, Revolut, Monzo…) in Settings → Profile, and save.

Personal Revolut.me links have limits (for example on card payments received each week). If you invoice regularly, look at Revolut Business payment links instead.

The invoice does not know when the money arrives. When you see the payment in your app, mark the invoice as paid (see “Track who has paid” below).

Monzo

Your client does not need Monzo to pay a monzo.me link.

  1. 1In the Monzo app go to Payments → Request and copy your monzo.me link (see Monzo’s help page).
  2. 2Paste it into Other payment link (PayPal, Revolut, Monzo…) in Settings → Profile, and save.

Personal monzo.me payments have limits per payment and per month. For business income, Monzo Business has its own payment links.

The invoice does not know when the money arrives. When you see the payment in your app, mark the invoice as paid (see “Track who has paid” below).

Bank transfer (any UK bank)

The simplest and free: your bank details are printed on the invoice and your client pays from their banking app.

  1. 1In Settings → Profile fill in Bank: account name, Bank: sort code and Bank: account number.
  2. 2Save. They appear under Payment details on every invoice, on screen, printed and in the PDF.
  3. 3Ask your client to use the invoice number as the payment reference, so you can match the payment.

Your bank details are kept only in your browser, and printed on the invoices you choose to send.

The invoice does not know when the money arrives. When you see the payment in your app, mark the invoice as paid (see “Track who has paid” below).

Track who has paid

  1. 1Every invoice has a status at the top: Unpaid or Paid. Change it there when the money arrives.
  2. 2Or open Open Archive and press ✓ Mark paid next to the invoice.
  3. 3Open Reports to see two lists: Outstanding (not paid yet, with overdue ones highlighted) and Paid, with the date each one was paid. Both are free.

Invoices paid by card through Stripe move to Paid on their own.
