Tips to get paid faster

  • Quote in writing first, then invoice against the quote.
  • Add the certificate to the invoice line so the customer knows it is included.
  • For landlords and agents, include the property address and their reference.

Business customers who pay late may owe you statutory interest of 8% above the Bank of England base rate, plus a fixed sum of £40, £70 or £100 depending on the size of the debt. This does not apply to private individuals.

Frequently asked questions

Should the certificate be on the invoice?

Listing it helps. The customer sees what they paid for, and you have a record linking the work to the certificate.

How long should I give the customer to pay?

Many electricians use 7 or 14 days. Agree it before the job and print it on the invoice.

Can a customer pay me by card?

Yes. With a free TaxEase UK account you can connect Stripe, and the invoice gets a card payment link and QR code.

Is the invoice template really free?

Yes. You can start an invoice straight away without an account. To download it as a PDF, email it or keep it, you create a free TaxEase UK account, which includes 5 invoices a month and card payments through Stripe.
